Developing Critical Consciousness: Transforming Psychology by Resisting Complacency and Leading with Integrity

Participants will be introduced to the concept of critical consciousness by reviewing recent conceptual and empirically-based literature in psychology and allied fields. The presenter will define, identify barriers, and explain steps to cultivating personal critical consciousness. The presenter will use autoethnography to demonstrate the challenges and development of critical consciousness and how it can facilitate personal and collective wellness.
1. Participants will describe why cultivating one’s critical consciousness is essential to personal, professional, and collective growth and liberation.
2. Participants will explain how to identify and address barriers to critical consciousness.
3. Participants will identify steps to advance critical consciousness toward collective liberation from oppression.
