The HNS Student Association is updating the directory of practicum, internship, and postdoctoral sites that offer Spanish-speaking supervision, opportunities to work with Spanish-speaking populations, and/or multicultural training. This directory will be available to HNS student and trainee members on the HNS website.
Rationale: There is a critical need for Spanish-speaking neuropsychologists who can offer neuropsychological services to the growing number of Spanish-speaking and bilingual individuals in the United States. Hispanics/Latinos (Hs/Ls) will comprise approximately 30% of the U.S. population by 2050, with children, adolescents, and older adults accounting for a significant portion of this growth. Thus, there will be an additional need for Spanish-speaking neuropsychologists who can provide services to both pediatric and older adult populations in their dominant language. Although the American Psychological Association (APA) emphasizes the importance of culture and working with diverse groups, neither multicultural training in neuropsychology nor direct clinical training with Spanish-speaking populations is common.
One of the goals of HNS is to encourage and facilitate the development of emerging neuropsychologists interested in working with H/L populations. Given this aim, an updated directory of sites that provide this type of training will be an essential resource for trainees who are seeking competency in multicultural neuropsychological assessment with Spanish-speaking Hs/Ls.
Note: If your site accepts students at different stages, please fill out a separate survey for each.
